Niji the Akita’s owner had a Tartine sandwich with those spindly little pickled carrots on the side. He informed me that Niji is accustomed to paparazzi, and is very laidback for his breed. I was reminded of Hachikō, who became famous for waiting nine years at the Shibuya train station for his owner to return. It’s a fascinating story, and speaks to much of what dogs are about.
